24 Hours of Blue Flags

The iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona was both frustrating and fun for D2D. The team only fielded one car this year, the Ferrari 488 GTE fielded by team members David Paton, Chris Thorman, and Bobby Childs. The team was joined by Jennifer McDonald, a fellow competitor at Xtreme Motorsports, and proudly ran the colors of the Ricmotech GT Challenge.

Bobby was chosen for the first leg, and qualified deep in the field in part to issues with low fuel setups. However the race pace of the car was amazing and Bobby quickly began making up positions, moving up 14 spots in the first 6 laps. But then it all went wrong, thanks to a driver who had already solo spun and then proceeded to punt the PROForma Elite Texas Graphics Ferrari and 2 other cars before the end of lap 7.

It's really a shame that some drivers have so little concern for their fellow competitors that they would drive in such a manner in the opening few laps of such an important 24 hour event. The team's pace in the turns, including the bus stop, was such that had the straight-line speed not been so reduced the team could have finished well inside the top 10. That said, all the drivers are proud of the grit and determination they showed fighting back from last after over 40 minutes of repairs (David and Jennifer also were contacted by other drivers) to finish P39. All drivers had a small loss of iRating and a small safety rating gain.

The team hopes to enter the Bathurst 12 Hour event on February 8, but plans are not finalized. Please keep checking back for updates!
