Name:
Brandon N. Whitworth
Team Color:
Cyan
Favorite car on iRacing:
Uh, that's a tough one. It varies over time. In VR, I think the Skippy might be the most fun, due to the open cockpit and the ability to get into and out of hilarious situations.
Favorite track on iRacing:
Probably Zandvoort. The track combines many different elements and has a lot of nice elevation changes.
Favorite real life car, track, or series:
All the various sports car series are pretty good. I've only driven one track in "real life", so I suppose it has to be my favorite, that being Barber Motorsports Park.
Have you ever raced in real life?
No real racing, but I have had some real training. I was (and maybe still am) qualified to get my SCCA license but didn't really have time to compete so I didn't go that route.
How long have you been sim racing?
I played various games/sims since the early 90's, but never really got in to online racing until iRacing in 2012.
Is iRacing the first sim you've run? How did you start sim racing?
I started out with Indianapolis 500: The Simulation in the early 90's and played various games/sims since then. iRacing was the first sim I played online significantly. I had known about iRacing for a while (and been avoiding it) before a friend mentioned that he had joined and I needed to try it. I was avoiding it because I knew where that would lead (and it did).
Do you currently race in any sims other than iRacing?
No.
Describe your best or favorite race you've run in iRacing:
Two come to mind: Several years ago I participated in the Indy 500 on iRacing (at not a terribly high iRating). I ran with a setup someone (nicely) provided on the forums that felt pretty good. Due to my late desire to participate, I missed qualifying and started last in the race (33rd). My the end of the race I was in 3rd, which I was happy with. In the last few laps, first and second touched slightly, messing up their wings enough for me to drive by and get the win. I think that race was almost 3.5hrs long.
The other is from one of my early seasons in the Ricmotech Sports Car series. I was racing the Mustang at Barber. Early on in the race (a 60 minute race), I was in 3rd and 1st and 2nd got tangled up and I took the lead. I managed to hold it together to get the win, even though they were catching me pretty quickly. That was my first (and so far only) win in the series.
