Chad ran a solid P3 through the opening stint, then made his move as pit stops began choosing to take no tires. As the pit stops cycled through, this placed him ahead of Geoff Appelgren in the NerdworX #7 entry. There was no opportunity to settle in as Appelgren began immediately pushing for the lead, finally getting into Parker's number 27 in turn 2 to force the issue. Race control was unhappy with the move and issued the order for the 7 to relinquish the position; after complying, Appelgren then made hard contact with the 27 forcing both drivers into the grass and costing them their entire gap to the trailing drivers. With his tires worn and lead erased, Chad showed his heart and will to win in the door banging battle with ultimate winner Kevin Carlisle (Apex Racing Team) but was unable to hold on to the top spot, also giving way to F4H Racing driver William Laster and finishing P3.
Regardless, the team is very proud of the skill and composure Chad displayed and we can't wait to see him build on this finish. We would also like to thank team member Brandon Whitworth for an excellent setup that allowed the entire team to compete with excellent pace. Brandon and Bobby Childs both had rough outings though, with Brandon dropping a few spots over the event to finish P7 and Bobby being involved in a major incident with a Mustang that ended a battle for P4; the 88 was eventually caught in another major accident with a Mazda which ran out of fuel in the racing line and relegated to the final car still running in class. Eric Violett had a quiet evening, moving up one position from his P7 qualifying position.
In the ST Class, the D2D entries had a rough go in qualifying with only Jim List securing a top five start. Traffic was problematic with three classes on a track with very short straights, and almost everyone ended up with damage. Chris Thorman was the victim of early contact, but fought his way back from dead last to join Jim and David Paton in scoring solid top ten finishes. Jacob Beasley made his return, but driving with one arm kept him from really pushing hard; regardless, he considered it a successful outing as the main goal was to finish.
